The star has given the entirety of his £25k award prize money to the MVT, which operates to protect the UK's independent music venues.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his third album the album was declared the best record of the past year.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in recognition of the essential function local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation supported spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped artists and audiences.

"The concept that funds from performances in major spaces backs the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has said.

Previously, they donated their prize money to the community center that developed their act, as well as other local music groups.

And winners that year they contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said vocalist Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in the city and the other in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the venues.
